Bihar Agricultural College, Sabour is one of the Six Agricultural Colleges in established during 1906 to 1910. It has been a premier institution of Agricultural Education and Research in the country. It was established on 17th August 1908 as Bengal Provincial Agricultural College, Sabour, Bhagalpur. Bihar Agricultural College, Sabour started agriculture education in 1910 and continued with slow pace till 1923. However, the teaching programme was discontinued thereafter. It was restored afresh on 10th January 1944 when Dr .J. S. Patel joined as the Principal of the College. B.Sc. (Ag) Education was started in theCollege in 1945.In the First batch, 26 students were admitted for B.Sc (Ag.) degree in 1945.
The Post-Graduate Education was started in this College in five Departments in 1955, in Horticulture, Agronomy, Plant Pathology, Entomology and Extension Education. Besides, research, extension and seed multiplication activities were also going on in the College. On 2nd June 1944, the refresher course was started with administrative control of Divisional Commissioner as the President, Principal as the Vice-President and Ex-Officio Secretary and a Governing Body of progressive farmers, legislatures and representatives of Teachers. The B. Sc. (Ag.) degree programmeof three years was first affiliated to Patna University and later from 1952 to 1960 to Bihar University and 1961 to 1970 to Bhagalpur University. Bihar Keshari Late Sri S.K. Sinha, Hon’ble First Chief Minister of Bihar visited Bihar Agricultural College, Sbour in 1960.
Bihar Agricultural College, Sabour became a Constituent College of Rajendra Agricultural University, Pusa with its establishment on 3rd December 1970.The courses were extended from three to four years and admissions were made strictly on merit basis. It is gratifying to recall that for the first time in India as well as in the developing countries that the PG Programme in Extension Education was started in the year 1955 at Sabour. In November, 1981 the Silver Jubilee of Post Graduate teaching & research in Extension Education in India was celebrated.
