Employees’ state Insurance Scheme of India, is a multidimensional social system tailored to provide socio-economic protection to worker population and their dependents covered under the scheme. Besides full medical care for self and dependents, that is admissible from day one of insurable employment, the insured persons are also entitled to a variety of case benefits in times of physical distress due to sickness, temporary or permanent disablement etc. resulting in loss of earing capacity, the confinement in respect of insured women, dependents of insured persons who die in industrial accidents or because of employment injury or occupational hazard are entitled to a monthly pension called the dependents benefit.
Earlier ESI, Hospital, Ludhiana was multi-speciality 100 bedded Hospital run by the Punjab Government. To ensure that there are proper secondary care facilities for bneneficiaries, the ESI Corporation decided to set up one Model Hospital in each State. Out of the existing Hospitals in State of Punjab, ESI Hospital, Ludhiana was chosen with a view to provide all modern infrastructure facilities, staff and equipments. It was taken over by ESIC Corporation on 1.11.2002 and renamed ESIC Model Hosptial, Ludhiana.
The hospital is situated in between Inter-State Bus Terminus, Ludhiana and Bharat Nagar Chowk, on Ferozepur road. The total site is about 10.5 acre. Within the complex of the ESIC Model Hospital, Ludhiana, the Office of Deputy Director( Zonal) and ESI Dispensary No.- 1 and 04 are housed. A total of 90 Staff Quarters of different categories are also located in the complex. The Corporate Office of ESI Corporation has already approved the increase of beds strength of this Hospital from 100 to 262. Presently 200 beds have been commissioned.
