Inspite of all the constraints the company is facing being a PSU, and intense competition from other operators, we have been able to expand and grow with the support of our esteemed customers and dedication & hard work of all the officers and employees of MTNL. I would like to give a brief about MTNL 's achievements.
Seeing the present trend towards mobile services, we have expanded our GSM based mobile service under the brand names Dolphin & Trump in a big way. Since launch of MTNL?s GSM mobile services in the year 2002, the number of GSM connections has reached 4.56 million as on 31.12.2009 including 1.93 lakh of 3G customers.he present GSM Network is 3G HSDPA enabled and hence can provide high data rate to mobile customers.
We have recently added 1 million lines capacity in GSM network at Delhi and Mumbai.The installation of additional 1 million capacity is under progress in both the places.
I am glad to inform you that MTNL is the first operator in India to launch the 3G services. The 3G service has been commercially launched with the brand name "Jadoo". In addition, to better and efficient utilization of spectrum, the 3G services will offer various host of services to the subscribers like Video telephony, High Speed Mobile Broadband, Mobile TV, Video Streaming, Video On Demand, On line Gaming etc.
